In an area of 153.65 ha, by the Bay of Chetumal, OxtankahÕs vegetation is divided in six succesional stages, from which a census of medicinal plants was carried out. Seventy two medicial species were identified, still in use by the local people. This report presents how those 72 species, and which part, are used and for what purpose. Oxtankah and the Bay of Chetumal represent a great opportunity for sustainabe tourism development in the area. The vegetation, the medicinal plants and their use can be important components in the sustainable managemente of the area.
